IMPACT ASSESSMENT

We track impact through a bi-annual Impact Assessment undertaken by an independent team, who use both the data we collect on an ongoing basis, and supplementary data they collect through surveys, workshops and case studies.

Our most recent Impact Assessment was in June 2016. The purpose of the study was to determine the social, economic and environmental impact that Pollinate Energy has had to date, and to generate robust data to provide an evidence base for future strategic planning and communication.

CUSTOMER STORIES

Meet Pushpa and Subho, two of Pollinate Energy’s customers. Their stories help illustrate just how much of a positive impact our products can have.

Pushpa

Pushpa has purchased two of Pollinate Energy’s solar lights. The lights have enabled Pushpa to tailor at night, from which she makes an extra 200 rupees a week. Her family saves an additional 200 rupees a week on kerosene.

Pushpa uses the extra money to pay for after-school tuition and study camps for her children, who also use the lanterns to study.

Recently, Pushpa purchased a cookstove from Pollinate Energy. She likes the stove because it uses less wood and she can leave it unattended to cook the family meal while she works.

Subho

Subho has been living in a slum community in Bangalore for 7 years with his wife, mother and father. Originally from Andra Pradesh, he is a drum player, and likes to bring joy to people’s most memorable occasions - birthdays, weddings and festivals. He also has four cows which he milks every day both to feed his family and make some extra income.

Subho has no electricity, and has to buy small candles from local shops for their lighting needs. Subho wakes up before sunrise every morning to milk his cows with only a small candle for light, that is blown out by even the smallest gust of wind. When he was milking the cows by candlelight he could never see if dirt or insects had fallen into the milk, which makes the milk unsellable. Now that he has a solar light all those worries are gone and he makes more money from the milk he sells.
