An Afternoon with the Royals

Arjun Bolangdy and Anilkumar Abburi, our Head of Operations and Hyderabad Operations Manager respectively, recently attended UKTI’s Great for Collaboration Event held in Mumbai on the 11th of April, 2016 graced by the presence of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Here is Arjun’s account of the event.

An Afternoon with the Royals

One of our biggest challenges at Pollinate Energy on the technological end has been finding suitable, sustainable mapping techniques for our communities. The question I’ve most commonly been faced with is:

“But you work in the urban ecosystem! Surely Google Maps can do the trick?”

When you’re faced with the predicament of knowing that most communities we service are not in the immediate proximity of main roads or even in the more remote bylanes, accurately depicting the location of these communities has been difficult, to say the least.

It comes as no surprise then, that ever since we’ve introduced the usage of what3words into our mapping process, it has been transformational. The accuracy of providing an address to every 3 square-meter space in the world now allows us to discover communities irrespective of how remote they can be, and moreover, helps our pollinators with the support of their managers to follow up with these communities after they are mapped.

And so, when what3words invited us to present our work at the UKTI’s Great for Collaboration event, we were more than happy to do so. It was a platform to present the work of young entrepreneurs who were collaborating effectively between the UK and India. There was a pretty special element to the day – the event was to be attended by Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Having collaborated with what3words on the structure of our presentation, it was soon time to depart to Mumbai for the event.

In the midst of high security, we arrived in the early hours of the 11th of April and were introduced to the space we were to present in.
